ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Greenlight America is a new organization that mobilizes grassroots power to win local siting and permitting campaigns for clean energy projects. We do this by partnering with local groups and activists to run strategic campaigns that win approval for clean energy projects in their communities. Our founding team has led some of the largest grassroots organizing networks in the country, and we are building a scalable model for engaging and mobilizing local residents in support of clean energy.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Development Director will lead Greenlight’s fundraising strategy, helping to resource Greenlight America and Greenlight Action’s combined $6 to $8 million fundraising goal for 2024 and grow the organizations in 2025. This position will be responsible for co-creating and implementing our institutional giving strategy with our CEO, as well as leading our major gift and regional donor strategy. They will draft persuasive proposals, show good judgment and knowledge of the climate donor world in recommending outreach approaches, and build strong internal fundraising processes. They will also supervisor one staff member. We are excited to bring on a fundraising strategist to build our nascent fundraising operation!

A successful candidate for this position will have significant experience fundraising, with knowledge of climate donors and demonstrated experience raising from both foundation and major gift donors to meet multi-million dollar goals. They will be a strong proposal writer, smart fundraising strategist, and excellent manager.

The position is remote and reports to the Senior Director, Partnerships. We are also considering applicants at the Senior Manager level; see more under the Key Qualifications section.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the CEO to develop our institutional giving strategy that details how to secure specific foundation giving through relationship management and tailored pitches. Lead implementation of that strategy.

  • Lead new proposal development, including regularly updating our general operating support proposal as well as drafting new pitches to meet the specific interests of donors.

  • Lead regional donor strategy to help us secure resources from donors interested in clean energy deployment in specific geographies (e.g., Midwest or Northwest). This will include partnership with the Senior Associate to research prospects, as well as leading our pitch development and relationship mapping strategy to secure meetings.

  • Own development of Greenlight’s major gift donor strategy. Our individual giving is currently modest and we are seeking to grow this area of giving. Implement the strategy in partnership with the Senior Associate, including through trip planning for the CEO.

  • Develop and implement a stewardship plan to ensure regular outreach and updates shared with our current donors.

  • Supervise the Senior Associate of Partnerships, supporting her to succeed in her responsibilities, which currently include donor research, data management, proposal portal drafting and submission, and grants management.
